Tyreana’s connection to music developed naturally, shaped by her early exposure to R&B and gospel. Growing up, her mother sang in a gospel choir, and the household was filled with 1990s and early 2000s R&B, creating an environment where music felt both personal and formative. Artists like Destiny’s Child, Fantasia, and Aaliyah influenced her early, offering emotional depth and inspiration that would later shape her creative work.
At 13, Tyreana discovered Kehlani, around the same time she came to understand her queer identity. Seeing an openly queer R&B artist express vulnerability and authenticity gave her a model for her own self-expression. This experience highlighted the importance of representation in shaping both artistic and personal identity.
Tyreana began writing music in 2020, at age 18, during the COVID-19 pandemic. With campus facilities closed and her structured dance practice on hold, she faced a period of silence and reflection. Writing became both a creative outlet and a way to process her experiences. During this time, she adopted the professional name “TY,” while keeping her full name, Tyreana, for close friends and family.
After graduating with a business degree in 2023, Tyreana briefly worked in real estate. While the role offered a conventional path toward stability, it left her unfulfilled. Being let go prompted her to reassess her priorities and focus on aligning her career with her creative passions.
By 2024, Tyreana had returned to formal dance training and recommitted to her growth as an artist. Dance continues to influence her musical rhythm, performance, and stage presence, while music remains her primary form of self-expression. In February 2025, she released her first single under her full name, marking a public statement of identity and artistic voice. Through her work, Tyreana blends personal experience with creative expression, offering audiences a thoughtful perspective on identity, representation, and artistic growth.
